Migrating from Media Cloud by ILAB to WP Media Cloud

Media Cloud by ILAB has not been updated since April 2024. The developer website is offline. Support is no longer available. If you are still running it, your media offloading depends on abandoned software with known security vulnerabilities. WP Media Cloud is a direct replacement. Your files stay in your bucket. Migration takes minutes.

Media Cloud by ILAB is no longer maintained. The last plugin update was April 2024. The developer website is offline. No new security patches, no compatibility updates, and no support are available. Running abandoned software to manage your media offloading carries real risk.

Why migrate now

Abandoned plugins stop receiving security patches. WordPress does not stop adding them.

Media Cloud by ILAB had three known security vulnerabilities. The last one was patched in March 2024. Since April 2024 there have been no further updates. Every WordPress core release, PHP version increment, and hosting environment change since then is an untested compatibility risk. The plugin cannot tell you when something breaks quietly.

Beyond security, Media Cloud by ILAB's feature set is now frozen. Bunny Edge Storage integration, newer S3-compatible providers, WooCommerce secure download improvements, and any future WordPress API changes will never be added. You are running a point-in-time snapshot of a plugin against a platform that keeps moving.

Risk 01

Security vulnerabilities with no patch path

Three CVEs are on record for Media Cloud by ILAB. The most recent was a stored XSS vulnerability patched in March 2024 just before development stopped. Any vulnerabilities discovered after April 2024 will never be patched. There is no developer to contact.

Risk 02

No compatibility updates for new WordPress versions

WordPress releases multiple major updates per year. PHP 8.3 and 8.4 have introduced deprecations that older plugins trigger as errors. Any future WordPress or PHP update may silently break media offloading on your site with no fix available.

Risk 03

No support when something goes wrong

The developer website is offline. The support forums are unanswered. If a configuration breaks, a hosting migration causes issues, or a new provider feature needs to be enabled, there is nobody to turn to. You are on your own with a codebase you did not write.

Risk 04

New providers and features are locked out

Bunny Edge Storage, Hetzner Object Storage, and any provider or API improvement added since April 2024 will never be available. Your storage options are permanently limited to what the plugin supported at the moment development stopped.

How to migrate

Your files are already in your bucket. Migration is just a plugin swap.

Media Cloud by ILAB and WP Media Cloud both store your media in the same cloud storage buckets using the same underlying providers. Your files do not move during migration. WP Media Cloud connects to the same bucket and runs an import to update your WordPress attachment metadata. The whole process is a configuration change, not a data migration.

Step 01

Install WP Media Cloud

Install and activate WP Media Cloud. Both plugins can run simultaneously during the transition. Your site continues serving media normally while you configure WP Media Cloud in the background.

Step 02

Connect to the same bucket

Enter your existing storage credentials and bucket name in WP Media Cloud settings. This is the same bucket and provider you were already using with Media Cloud by ILAB. No files are moved, duplicated, or re-uploaded at this step.

Step 03

Run the import tool

WP Media Cloud's import tool scans your media library and updates attachment metadata to match WP Media Cloud's URL structure. This is a database-only operation. Your files in cloud storage are untouched. The tool runs in the background and handles any size library with no limits.

Step 04

Deactivate Media Cloud by ILAB

Once your site is confirmed to be serving images correctly through WP Media Cloud, deactivate and uninstall Media Cloud by ILAB. Your media library, URLs, and cloud files are all intact. You are now running actively maintained software.
